so I decided to work on my 25xd I noticed when in forward Motor not running, motor is locked in while turning the prop. and when you put in reverse, it tends to skip by hand. Motor is non running right now & when you engage pull start in reverse gear, it engages but obviously not under load

The 9.9 and 15 are different carbs. 15 has a bigger bore. If you put a 15hp jet in a 9.9 it with run rich you put 9.9 jets in a 15 and you'll burn it up

Nice ! have you ever made a video on tilt lock adjustment? My 18 XD will not lock in reverse so motor kicks up when going into reverse. I've also just acquired a 1985 25 XD I plan on restoring and find you have knowledge to share, & you have the gift to explain with simplicity and most important, you highlight key points to watch out for when we DIY.

Fast forward eight years, and so many people have broken that little plastic cam attached to the shifter rod, removing the lower foot unit, because they forgot to unscrew it, that that unit (Part 93928) has become unobtainable.

I had a honda with one of those early cvcc engines and I had alot of problems keeping it running...although...to be fair, it had alot of miles on it when I bought it. There were not very many independent mechanics that knew anything about those motors. I am sure things improved as time went on....

What?! This thing rips! I'm gonna be doing a carb rebuild for a guy, now I wanna see it in action when it runs!

I have one, 1994, it had a problem inside, I think that in the connecting rod shaft, I have parts for it in your country?

Started out as a nice video of a good running outboard. Then you ruined it by doing the high rpm rev. Folks DO NOT do that to your outboard.

I'm having back pressure issues. The water pump is brand new. It pumps fine if the rubber cover for the gear linkage is off, but it won't pump at all if it's on. An old guy that worked on these motors years ago told me to drill some pressure relief holes. I'm trying to figure out where, and what size. Other than that, the motor is mint. It's an 84, and was used a total of 4 hours in the 80's. I'd be a shame to junk the motor for such a stupid problem.

Working the throttle by hand, you're not moving the timing. It won't rev up and run right if the timing isn't moved along with the throttle. They move in sync timing and throttle.

Where can you get pars for these? Looking for fuel valve and gas cap that doesn’t leak (open close vent cap)

Is the mixture knob the idle pin for the carb? My engine seems to bog out at idle unless I give it throttle. I’m guessing it’s my idle pin

It did help me , but at the same time you need to know there are two sizes of bushing, I ordered both but the beefier one came first and my brother & I had to pound it from underneath to get it to dislodge fron the frame. I wish it came out the way yours did. We used the one we had but needed to go to Ace hdwe to get a 20 threaded nylok nut to stop from it coming loose while riding because the thicker bushing left fewer threads to fasten to end of shaft and used blue thread lok to help insure. it woul not come loose. I got the same exact one I’ve had if for 21yrs and runs really good. The weed less prop chews through everything. Just picked up a 74 for $25 going to try to get that running worst case I’ll have spare parts for the one I already have

I know some people disagree, but, you can use an impact driver to remove the flywheel (on the center bolt of the puller.) Some are easy to remove, some not. Same with most magnetos and flywheels on these engies, motorcycles, atv's, dirtbikes, etc.

So that's all salt water if you're on the ocean?.. going right into the cylinder?

Mixture adjustments would be on the needle on the carb slide you can move it up or down a few knotches, that screw in the side is an adjustment for the idal/slide height

Probably the mount break damage was the same thing that bent all the prop blades

I hope you didn’t charge him extra for that air filter because I watched you squeeze the shit out of that air filter and broke it. I never had an air filter be that hard to come off. This is why I do my mechanic work.

Thought maybe I accidentally clicked ahead in the video. Everything presented was correct but would be better if video showed the actual replacement of the new parts. Tip: After the flanged hex steering bushing was removed, I threaded a length of string trimmer filament up the hole until it cleared the engine bay. Put the new bushing on the line and let it slide down to the hole. A little pinky finagling got it seated properly. My old pinion gear only had wear close to one edge so I was able to flip it over and reuse. Fortunate as the replacement bushing was not bundled with a new pinion gear.
